A Competitive and Community Spirit

Back on 15th September, we held our inaugural Rock Solid Golf Open event at the picturesque Bushfoot Golf Club.  Rock Solid Golf Company is more than just a brand, we hope to build it into a community of like minded people who enjoy the competitive edge, but also the community spirit of being part of something.

For those of you that don’t know, Bushfoot Golf Club is a 9-hole links course that runs along the shoreline, offering players stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the River Bush whilst the Giant’s Causeway is just beyond the headland. What makes Bushfoot GC special is its natural beauty of rolling fairways, coastal dunes, and rugged terrain that provide a true test of links golf.

The course’s proximity to the ocean means wind is often a factor, adding an extra layer of challenge to the game. The course may be short by modern standards, but its tricky layout and natural defenses more than make up for it.

For us, Bushfoot GC with its fantastic links routing, relaxed vibe, welcoming atmosphere and of course its proximity to the Giant’s Causeway, made it the perfect venue.

On the day, we had golfers from across the ability range who scored birdies and triples and everything in between. Each player received a goodie bag on arrival which included snacks and refreshments along with a Rock Solid Script Bobble Hat to keep them warm this winter. Upon arrival, the course looked magnificent and we were blessed with clear blue skies for the day. Michael, who at the time was awaiting back surgery, had not brought his clubs, but he couldn’t resist the charm of the links so Ian Blair, PGA professional, kitted him out with a set to play the second 9. Ian’s gesture really just typified the welcoming atmosphere at Bushfoot GC.

After three and a bit hours of sunshine and a little wind, amongst the birdies and triples, three players emerged with more than Rock Solid scores. Robbie Clements and Nathan Duncan used their local knowledge as Bushfoot GC members to card scores of 41 and 37 points respectively to pick up 2nd and 3rd place. Robbie probably felt that his score of 41 points would have been enough to lift the trophy, but it wasn’t to be as Colin Platt returned a score of 45 points to take the inaugural title!

After the golf, Bushfoot GC’s welcoming atmosphere was evident again as Ian had ensured that prime seats had been reserved in the bar area for everyone to relax and tell their tales of woe and wonder.  Drinks were enjoyed and prizes distributed before most took the opportunity to enjoy Bushfoot GC’s famous Sunday carvery and boy did it not disappoint!

The day finished by watching Rory’s agonising finish at the Irish Open at Royal County Down. If only Colin could have shared a few of his good shots with Rory, then both would have finished the day as champions!

All told, from start to finish, our inaugural event was a huge success involving a competitive spirit and sense of community which we will look to experience again on Sunday 11th May 2025. We hope to see you there, back at Bushfoot GC.

Lastly, we are currently exploring the possibility of hosting a Trackman/ TopTracer virtual golf league across January - April so watch our social media pages for further information.

Thanks for reading.

Until next time, Play Rock Solid!
